Standing Out Threatens Those Who Were Born to Fit in

Guess who’s going to rip me to shreds by the end of this? (Besides the grammar nazis, who are always out to tear me a new one)

THE PC PRINCESSES.

Holy shiiiiit, did I used to be scared of The PC Princesses! These elitist nose-in-the-air bitches were tossing judgement grenades from the safety of their glass houses, sitting on bean bags of air sucked from the souls of baby koalas, and patting each other on the back for their “vigilance” in hunting down any woman who dared to believe she had a message (and that people would want to hear it), while accusingly pointing her bony finger, crying “EVIL!” like they were the star witness in the Salem witch trials.

Eventually, I discovered something remarkable (and I’m sure you can’t wait to hear it). The remarkable reality about these PC Princesses was this--- they were scared shitless themselves. And do you know why?

BECAUSE STANDING OUT THREATENS THOSE WHO WERE BORN TO FIT IN.

If there’s one life lesson I’ve been privileged to learn in all the years I’ve been getting sh*t done, whether that’s self-publishing books, enlisting in the Marine Corps, or starting a business, this one law of life is always true:

WHEN YOU STAND OUT, THE RIGHT PEOPLE FIND YOU.

Naturally, this is a challenge for PC Princesses! It’s difficult for anyone who cares about what others think to the point that they deny expressing who they are in favor of being led by the masses. And I’m by no means on some pedestal looking down on anyone because the truth is-- we’re all chicken shit scared about being judged.

And that feeling doesn’t just go away. You have to consciously fight against that fear and make a decision every day to honor your own voice and message.  Telling someone to just go out there and say how they feel without worrying about the repercussions is pretty much like saying, “hey, take that hammer and slam it down on my pinky toe!” But that’s exactly how it feels sometimes.

You can’t let that stop you. And the way that you don’t let it is by getting around others who want the same thing and can offer the same support. Stop waiting for permission to step into who you are and declare that to the world. To create your own dreams and follow through with them regardless of what the world deems “appropriate.”

Count on yourself.

Bet on yourself.

And stop giving a damn what they think.
